BOBP@COFI37: BOBP’S CATCH DOCUMENTATION SYSTEM PRESENTED IN THE “TECHNOLOGY TRANSFORMING FISHERIES” SIDE EVENT
Dr. P Krishnan showcased the community-oriented digital Catch Documentation and Traceability App, BOBP-IGO is developing in the global forum. Designed particularly for small-scale fisheries, the AI-embedded system aims to capture key information on fishing trips, vessels, catch, landing, buyers and subsequent transactions in a practical digital format, while reducing the reporting burden on fishers.
He was speaking at the Panel for “Technology Transforming Fisheries: Data, Traceability and Control for Achieving SDG 14” organized at the side of COFI-37 by the Government of Panama in collaboration with FAO on 10 September 2026. Prof. Manuel Barange, Assistant Director-General and Director of FAO’s Fisheries and Aquaculture Division inaugurated the event, and Mr Gerardo Irimia, Deputy Administrator of the Aquatic Resources Authority of Panama (ARAP) delivered the keynote address.
The event explored how technological innovation is transforming the way fisheries are monitored, managed, and governed spotlighting tools like vessel monitoring systems, AIS, electronic reporting and monitoring, artificial intelligence, satellite surveillance, remote sensing, and digital traceability in support of FAO’s Blue Transformation Roadmap and SDG 14.
