Following the first Scoping Consultation conducted in Chennai on March 23, 2016, the second Consultation was held in Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Kochi on April 23, 2016. The Scoping Workshop was expected to contribute to the shaping up of the activities of the Project as well as building linkages which will be further strengthened during the Project and post-Project activities.
The Consultation was attended by 29 participants consisting of fishermen, fish traders, exporters, researchers, academicians, experts and development agencies involved in tuna fisheries in and around Kochi.
The second scoping consultation helped capture the pivotal role played by the traders in the supply chain and the need for establishing partnership of all stakeholders in the business. The consultation has also underlined the importance of establishing marketing linkages. Demonstration of best practices across the supply chain and enhancing the capacity is another key requirement for the sustainability of the fishery.
