The National Workshop on Fisheries Management Inventory (FMInv) for India, the first in the series, was held from 28–30 July 2025 at the BOBP-IGO office in Chennai. This pioneering effort is the first formal step towards establishing a structured, science-driven, and community-engaged system to understand and assess how key fishery units are managed across the Bay of Bengal region. This workshop focused on four fisheries from India, namely the Blue swimming crab fishery in Palk Bay, Live bait fishery in Lakshadweep, Hilsa fishery in West Bengal and the Ashtamudi clam fishery in Kerala. Over three days, the workshop brought together fisheries managers from the three coastal states of West Bengal, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, and the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, fisherfolk representatives from the four fisheries, NGO representatives, scientists from ICAR institutions, experts from FAO and BOBP-IGO.
