
HILSA FISHERY
Title: Developing Trans-boundary Management Strategies for Hilsa fishery in the Bay of Bengal region under changing climate
Countries: INDIA - BANGLADESH - MYANMAR
OBJECTIVES
- Compile and collate comprehensive fishery statistics of Hilsa from India, Bangladesh and Myanmar onto a unified platform and assess the current status of Hilsa stock.
- Characterization of Hilsa stock in the marine and inland resources of India, Bangladesh and Myanmar based on literature and sample collected from selected areas covering Bay of Bengal region towards developing joint stock management measures.
- Developing physical and biological oceanography-based indicators and prediction system using machine learning techniques and GIS for Hilsa shad distribution in the Bay of Bengal region.
- Reviewing and assessment of the current legislation and policy measures for management of Hilsa and devise country-specific management plans for Hilsa fisheries.
