The Bay of Bengal Programme Inter-Governmental Organisation (BOBP-IGO) organized a six days Training Course in Chennai (08 – 13 May 2017) on the ‘Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (CCRF)’ for Officials of the Department of Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare (DFFW), Government of Puducherry. Organized as a part of the World Bank/GEF Ocean Partnership Project/FIMSUL-2 (Fisheries Management for Sustainable Livelihoods Project) activities, 10 Officials of the DFFW participated in the Course. The BOBP-IGO, since 2008, has been organizing a specialized Course on CCRF for its member-countries and other countries in the Bay of Bengal region and this Course was an abridged version of the highly popular regular Course. The DFFW, Puducherry plans to move towards a fisheries management regime based on co-management principles. Thus, the larger objective of the Training Course was to enhance the understanding of the DFFW Officials in implementation of CCRF and to develop practical skills in managing the stakeholders and moving towards a co-management regime. The Training Course included a mix of tutorials, analytical tools, group activities and evaluations to enable the Officers to better understand the CCRF and its use in day-to-day fisheries management. The attached pictures provide a glimpse of the Training Course.
