The Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations and the BOBP initiated a programme in 2018 to review the techno-economic performance of the global fishing fleet (Report link). Under the programme, 16 national fishing fleet (Brazil, Chile, China, European Union, India, Indonesia, Japan, Norway, Peru, Russia, Senegal, South Africa, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey and United States of America) are being surveyed. To peer-review the national studies and to validate the outcomes, an Expert Meeting will be held at the FAO headquarters in Rome from 8 – 11 October 2019. The current review, which is being conducted nearly a decade after the last review, will provide updated information on the changing environment of fishing including technology, business profit and economics.
